What is meaningfully different in JB is the value math. Director-level seniority — a stylist with 10–15+ years and Korea or Taipei training — typically charges senior-stylist (not director) prices when measured in Singapore dollars. That is the whole reason the trip exists.

REDS Hairdressing

Multi-outlet, present at City Square and KSL City Mall among other locations. REDS is the workhorse name in JB hair — large team, full service menu, English-speaking staff, accepts SGD cash at most outlets. Cold perms typically start around RM 148 and Korean wave perms around RM 188. Walk-in capacity exists but weekend bookings are advised.

Cutdomos Hair Studio

Detail-led salon known for cuts and structured colour work. Haircuts from around RM 58 and colouring from around RM 160; down perm from around RM 80; Natural Korean C-Curl perms from around RM 240. The studio leans technique-heavy — useful if you have a specific reference photo.

Picasso Hair Studio

Cross-border brand with Singapore presence and a JB outlet. Familiar service standards if you already know the SG side; the JB pricing is the value layer.

Pitfalls and things to know

Book ahead for weekends. Saturday is peak; weekday afternoons are noticeably quieter. The named salons can fill 2–3 weeks out for senior stylists.
Quote first. Get a written quote covering hair length surcharge, product upgrade, and any add-on treatment. Long hair adds 30–50% on perm and colour quotes.
Reference photos help. Bring two — what you want and what you do not want. Avoids translation gaps for very specific Korean trends.
Cash mix. Bigger salons take SGD cash and credit cards; smaller boutiques are RM-preferred or eWallet-friendly. Carry a mix.
Plan around the service, not the trip. A four-hour perm cannot be rushed because the Causeway looks busy. Build the buffer in.
