The catch — and this needs to land before anything else — is the SG-import side. A JB-registered car cannot be imported to Singapore for SG-registration without going through full COE bidding, plus GST, plus ARF, plus customs duties. That stack typically lands at SGD $90,000–130,000+ before you have paid for the car itself. Whatever you save in JB, you lose four times over in import. Why this market is narrower than people think

What a JB-registered car can do is enter Singapore on a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP, MYR 110 RFID, valid 5 years) for short-term visits. For long-term cross-border use — daily commute on a JB plate — you need valid MY road tax plus insurance covering both countries.

The buyer profiles where JB used cars actually make sense:

SG residents with MM2H or MY work-permit status. You can register a car in MY in your own name; the car lives at your MY address. Cleanest fit.
SG businesses with MY operations. Fleet purchases for a Johor warehouse or KL branch.

Test drive. Highway plus low-speed plus parking. Listen for transmission slip, brake pull, AC under load.
Avoid salvage-title and flood-damaged cars. KL and Selangor flood seasons damage hundreds annually; some end up in JB with water history concealed. Inspector should check carpet underlay, electronics and boot well.
Avoid high-mileage 8+ year cars unless price reflects it.

Pitfalls and things to know
