See Hyundai Staria details →Jumppy is a cross-border chauffeur service — we drive you there; we don't run the businesses in this guide. Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm, Panasonic and Leica at JB authorised and grey-market dealers — 15-30% under SG retail. Where to go, what you save, and the warranty trade-offs to read before a four-figure cheque.
Camera shopping in JB is electronics shopping with sharper edges. Bodies, lenses, drones and accessories run 15-30% under SG retail. The catch is warranty: JB gives you three buying modes (authorised, grey-market, pre-owned), each with a different trade-off. A working photographer buying a kit refresh routinely saves SGD $1,500-2,500 in one trip; an enthusiast buying a single sub-$500 accessory will see the chauffeur leg cancel the savings.
SGD-MYR FX gives you 10-15% before negotiation; thinner MY margins add 5-15%. Lenses sit at the high end — a Sony GM zoom or a Canon RF L-series telephoto saves SGD $700-900. Bodies deliver 15-22%; accessories (tripods, bags, filters) clear 25-35%. JB’s camera scene splits across four corridors: Tebrau-Mid Valley for authorised dealers, Mount Austin and Komtar JBCC for brand specialists, Bukit Indah for grey-market and pre-owned.
Default first stop for a primary-camera purchase. Authorised dealer with demo units, English-speaking staff, financing and extended warranty add-ons. The 5-10% premium over Megacam buys a serviceable warranty card on a SGD $4,000+ body.
Long-running multi-brand dealer with strong Nikon and Fujifilm depth — Fujifilm X-T5 and X-H2 typically have stock when SG is on backorder. Authorised channels with international warranty cards.
JB Photo Centre carries third-party glass (Sigma Art, Tamron, Samyang) alongside the majors. Camera Mart specialises in accessories — Lowepro and Peak Design bags, Manfrotto and Gitzo tripods, V-mount batteries, ND filters, memory cards.
Where you go when the warranty trade is acceptable for the price. Authenticated pre-owned with 6-12 month dealer warranty; grey-market new at the steepest discounts. Ask for sensor-clean and shutter-count reports in writing.
April 2026 SGD-equivalent reference; verify before you commit. JB column blends authorised and grey-market depending on the item.
| Item | SG (authorised) | JB (mix) | Savings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canon EOS R5 (body) | SGD $5,500-6,500 | SGD $4,500-5,500 | ~20% |
| Sony A7 IV (body) | SGD $3,500-4,500 | SGD $2,800-3,800 | ~20% |
| Nikon Z6 III (body) | SGD $3,800-4,800 | SGD $3,000-4,000 | ~20% |
| Fujifilm X-T5 (body) | SGD $2,300-3,000 | SGD $1,800-2,400 | ~20% |
| Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II | SGD $3,200-3,800 | SGD $2,500-3,200 | ~22% |
| Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L | SGD $3,800-4,500 | SGD $3,000-3,800 | ~22% |
| GoPro HERO 13 Black | SGD $700-850 | SGD $550-680 | ~20% |
| DJI Mini 4 Pro drone | SGD $1,300-1,600 | SGD $1,000-1,300 | ~22% |
| Tripod (Manfrotto / Gitzo) | SGD $400-1,200 | SGD $280-900 | ~30% |
| Camera bag (Lowepro / Peak Design) | SGD $200-450 | SGD $130-300 | ~35% |
Three buying modes, three trade-offs.
Test before buying. Power on and shoot a frame; check the sensor at f/16 against a white wall for dust and dead pixels; run continuous AF and listen for unusual shutter noise; mount the lens, check for play, and inspect glass under a torch for fungus, haze and scratches; verify the serial against the brand’s database (canon.com, sony.com, nikon.com).
A single mirrorless body almost always clears the under-48-hour SGD $100 threshold and often the over-48-hour SGD $500 threshold. Declare at the Red Channel at Woodlands or Tuas; pay 9% GST on the over-amount. The duty on a SGD $4,000 body declared after 48 hours out is roughly SGD $315 — small relative to the SGD $700-1,000 you saved. The fine for non-declaration is dramatically higher.
A camera-buying day is a half-day to full-day pattern: SG pickup mid-morning, Causeway clearance, two to three dealer stops, lunch in Mid Valley or Mount Austin, return mid-afternoon. A Standard MPV like a Toyota Voxy at SGD $150 (Standard MPV) one-way / SGD $180 (Luxury MPV) one-way handles a kit run with boot space. All tolls and Causeway clearance included.
For working photographers running monthly acquisition cycles, the full-day driver option keeps one vehicle on hold across the dealer-plus-print-shop circuit. Driving yourself? You will need a VEP for cross-border self-driving since July 2025 — chartering with us avoids it. For a studio team buying gear together, our group bus rental handles 13+ pax. SG photo studios with monthly JB acquisition can use our corporate account for billing.
Pair the trip with related errands. Our JB electronics shopping guide covers the broader phones-and-laptops scene at Plaza Sentosa and KOMTAR — the difference: that is broad consumer electronics; this is photography-specific deep-dive. The JB photography studio guide covers paid studio rentals if you shoot in JB. For a full day, chain in the JB sneaker and streetwear guide, the JB coworking space guide if you want to edit on-site, or the JB pet boarding guide.
Roughly 15-30% across the catalogue. Bodies and pro lenses cluster at 20-22%; accessories (tripods, bags) push 30-35%. A multi-piece kit purchase routinely saves SGD $1,500-2,500 in one trip.
Yes if you bought from an authorised dealer with the international warranty card — SG service centres for Canon, Sony and Nikon honour MY-purchased authorised gear. Grey-market goes back to the original JB dealer.
Limited SG-side service. Authorised service in MY is dealer-only and may require shipping to brand HQ. If you shoot Fujifilm or Leica professionally and depend on quick repair turnaround, consider buying SG retail for those systems.
Authorised is brand-certified stock with international warranty card and SG-serviceable warranty for Canon/Sony/Nikon. Grey-market is genuine but parallel-imported with no brand warranty in MY. Pre-owned is authenticated second-hand with 6-12 month dealer warranty; ask for shutter count and sensor inspection in writing.
Yes if the total exceeds SGD $500 (over 48 hours out) or SGD $100 (under 48 hours). A single mirrorless body usually clears the threshold. Declare at the Red Channel; pay 9% GST on the over-amount. The duty is small relative to the savings.
Test in shop. Power on, shoot a frame, check the sensor at f/16 against a white wall, run continuous AF, mount the lens and inspect glass under a torch, and verify the serial against the brand’s database.
A Standard MPV (Toyota Voxy class) at SGD $150 one-way for a solo or couple kit run. A Luxury MPV (Alphard or Vellfire) at SGD $180 for longer multi-errand days. See our fleet and our pricing matrix.
