About Desaru Coast

Desaru is a coastal stretch on the eastern side of Johor state, facing the South China Sea. The Desaru Coast development covers roughly 25 km of beachfront and is anchored by integrated resort properties — it’s a deliberately quieter, more managed beach destination than Bali or Phuket, designed around weekend reach from Singapore.

SG travellers come for the beach (white sand, gentle surf), the premium golf (Els Club Desaru Coast Ocean Course is the headliner), and the resort staycations. Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast is the family anchor; the Westin and Anantara cover the luxury family bracket; One&Only Desaru Coast sits at the ultra-luxury, ocean-front end. Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark is the standalone day-trip attraction — billed as one of the largest waterparks in Southeast Asia by its operator.

Compared with a JB city break, Desaru is the proper resort experience — quieter, with no city traffic, and walkable inside each property. The Riverside F&B and retail strip handles meals and shopping outside the resorts.

Getting there from Singapore

Private chauffeur (recommended)

The route is Singapore → Tuas Second Link → Senai-Desaru Expressway (E22) → Desaru Coast. It’s nearly all expressway and the drive is genuinely 90 minutes door-to-door when traffic is clean. We drop directly at the resort valet — Hard Rock, Westin, Anantara, One&Only, or Riverside — no transfers required.

For most families, a Standard MPV (Voxy) is plenty for 4–6 with weekend luggage. Larger groups or anyone bringing golf bags often go Luxury MPV (Alphard) for the extra boot. All tolls and Causeway/Tuas clearance are baked into the flat fare. For a same-day round-trip, the driver can wait at the resort or we send a fresh chauffeur on the return run — whatever works best for your schedule.

Drive yourself

Easy 90-minute drive on the E22. You’ll need a valid VEP for any Singapore-registered car and a topped-up Touch ‘n Go card for Malaysian tolls. Tuas Second Link Friday-evening jams can match the Causeway during peak hours — check live checkpoint cameras before you leave.

Bus / coach

Direct Singapore → Desaru coaches run with operators like Causeway Link and KKKL. Travel time is typically around 3.5 hours including Causeway clearance. Ferry from Tanah Merah

The Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal → Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal route runs around 90 minutes one-way, then a 15-minute shuttle to most resorts. Operated by Batam Fast / Desaru Coast Ferry. Fast on a clear day — but the east coast monsoon (November to February) brings frequent cancellations. If your dates fall in monsoon season, the chauffeur is the rain-or-shine option.

Causeway routing (alternative)

The Causeway works but adds 30–45 minutes via JB-side traffic. Only sensible if you’re starting from north or east Singapore and the Tuas-side checkpoint is heavier on the live cameras. Common itineraries

Day trip from Singapore

Workable, especially for the waterpark or a round of golf. Leave 8am SG, arrive Desaru by 10am, full day on the beach or course, depart around 6pm. Around 12 hours total. Less rushed than the equivalent Genting day-trip.

Overnight (1N2D)

The most common shape. Resort check-in Friday evening, full Saturday on the beach, golf, or waterpark, leisurely Sunday-morning breakfast, return Sunday afternoon. We do a fresh chauffeur on the return so you’re not paying for an overnight wait.

Long weekend (3D2N)

Standard staycation length. Easily combines beach time with one full waterpark day and one round of golf. WhatsApp us if you want the driver to do an additional outing within Desaru — e.g. Riverside dinner — most are happy to oblige for a small extra.A nearby side-trip to the Kota Tinggi waterfalls and firefly tours is an easy add-on, too.

Round-trip same-day pickup

Driver waits at the resort or returns at an agreed time, usually 8 hours later for a beach day. Flexible by request — confirm with us when booking.

What to pack and things to know

• Beach kit: sun protection, light cover-ups, reef-safe sunscreen. Most resorts have everything for sale, but at resort prices.
• Golf gear: we accommodate full bags — flag this when booking so we send the right vehicle (Alphard or Hiace for multiple bags).
• Currency: Resorts accept cards, but Riverside F&B and outside-resort hawkers run on Ringgit cash.
• Monsoon (Nov–Feb): high east-coast surf, frequent ferry cancellations, occasional heavy rain on the drive. Chauffeur is unaffected — just plan for indoor backup activities.
• Resort check-in: most are flexible to late arrivals, but confirm with the resort if you’re arriving after 11pm.
• Friday-evening jams: Tuas Second Link can clog from 5–8pm. Pickup before 4pm or after 8pm clears most of it.
• Children: child seats available on request — flag at booking and we’ll route to a vehicle that has one.
