See Toyota Alphard details →A private cross-border chauffeur takes the family from Singapore to the Kota Tinggi waterfalls and the evening firefly tour — then waits and brings you home. Door to door, no taxi swap at the border. WhatsApp us for our best rate.
Kota Tinggi is a small town in eastern Johor, roughly 1 to 1.5 hours from Singapore once you’re across the Causeway. Most people go for two things: the Kota Tinggi waterfalls — a wide, cool cascade you can swim in — and the firefly tour on the Sungai Johor, where the mangroves light up after dark. They’re a daytime trip and an evening trip rolled into one outing, which is exactly why a private car makes sense.
The catch is that the waterfalls, the firefly jetty and the town are spread out, with no practical public transport linking them. And because the fireflies only come out in the evening, you need a ride that’s still there to take you back late. A private chauffeur does all of it: door to door from your home in Singapore, a wait while you swim and again while you’re out on the boat, then the drive home.
Kota Tinggi is a day-out destination, not a single stop. A typical visit hits the waterfalls in the afternoon, dinner in town, and the firefly boat after dark — three places, hours apart, finishing well into the evening. Here’s why a chauffeur beats the alternatives:
The two anchors are the waterfalls and the firefly tour, with a beach detour if you want to stretch the day. Here’s how they fit together:
| Highlight | What it is | Best time |
|---|---|---|
| Kota Tinggi waterfalls (Lombong / Air Terjun) | A popular cascade at the foot of Gunung Muntahak, about 15 km from town — wide pools for swimming, shaded spots for a family picnic. | Daytime (afternoon for the swim) |
| Firefly tour on the Sungai Johor | A small boat ride through the mangroves to watch the “kelip-kelip” light up — one of the region’s best firefly spots. | Evening, after dark |
| Tanjung Balau fishing village & beach | A quiet beach and fishing village on the coast east of town — an easy add-on between the waterfall and the firefly slot. | Late afternoon |
Kota Tinggi town itself is good for a meal between the day and evening stops, and Singapore to Desaru — the beach resort strip further east — pairs naturally if you want to make a bigger loop of it. Just tell us the order you want and we’ll build the drive around it.
A Kota Tinggi day is simple: pick up in Singapore, cross the border, waterfalls and a swim, dinner, then the firefly boat, then home. The evening fireflies make it a long day with a late finish — the whole reason to have a car waiting rather than scrambling for a ride at 10pm in a small town.
Drive time is roughly ~1–1.5 hr · +clearance each way. Causeway clearance varies with the day, so we plan the timing with a buffer — especially for getting you to the firefly slot on time.
Kota Tinggi doesn’t have a fixed published fare, the same way our cross-border taxi short hops to JB do. A waterfalls-and-fireflies outing is a day trip with the driver waiting, so it’s priced as a day rate, quoted on WhatsApp once we know your plan — how long you’re out, how many stops, and how late the firefly return runs.
For general fares on our published routes, see our pricing page — but Kota Tinggi itself is quoted on request.
After heavy rain the waterfall current runs stronger, so keep an eye on little ones near the pools and follow any signs on the day.
We’re a cross-border chauffeur booking platform — you WhatsApp us your plan, and we dispatch a vetted JCTransport vehicle for the day. One MY-plated car, a driver who waits through the swim and the firefly boat, and the late ride home handled. Tell us your group size and the order you want to do things, and we’ll have a quote back to you in a jiffy.
It’s a drive of roughly 1 to 1.5 hours each way once you’re across the Causeway, plus border clearance — Kota Tinggi sits in eastern Johor. We plan the timing with a buffer, since clearance at the Causeway varies with the day.
There’s no fixed fare on this route — WhatsApp us for our best rate. It’s a day trip with the driver waiting, so we quote a day rate based on how long you’re out, how many stops, and how late the firefly return runs.
Yes — that’s the point of a private car here. The driver waits while you’re on the firefly boat and brings you back across the border afterwards. A late-night pickup home between 11pm and 7am adds a flat SGD 30 night surcharge, which we’ll include in the quote.
Yes — the Kota Tinggi waterfalls are a popular family swimming and picnic spot, with shallower pools as well as deeper ones. Keep an eye on little ones near the water, and take extra care after heavy rain when the current is stronger.
Not practically. The waterfalls, the firefly jetty and the town are spread out with no useful bus links between them, and the firefly tour ends in the evening — so a private car that waits and handles the late return is the recommended way to do it.
Yes — Desaru is further east along the coast and pairs well with a Kota Tinggi day. Tell us your plan and the order you’d like, and we’ll build the drive and quote around it. See our Singapore to Desaru page for that side of the trip.
