This is the 3D2N shape that works for a 4-pax SG family with kids 4 to 12, basing at Berjaya Tioman in Lalang. Day 1 absorbs the SG-to-Mersing-to-Tioman transit and tucks in a Renggis afternoon snorkel. Day 2 is the full snorkel-and-explore day. Day 3 is a slow morning before the ferry home. Sun, water and safety essentials for SG kids

Tioman is warm tropical (26-30°C year-round) so the standard SG-summer dress code carries — but the marine and sun-exposure variables matter more than at a city trip. The non-negotiable list:

Reef-safe sunscreen (mandatory). Oxybenzone and octinoxate-free formulations only — most Tioman resorts now require it and many Marine Park snorkel boats refuse non-reef-safe brands. Pack from SG; selection at the village shops is thin.
Rashguard or UV shirt for kids in water. UV intensity is high all day and the reef coral abrades skin on shallow snorkels. Long-sleeve UPF 50+ shirts solve both problems.
Sea sickness pills (Stugeron). The 1.5-2 hour ferry can be rough for sensitive kids; Stugeron 30 minutes before boarding is the standard call. Ginger sweets within reach as backup.
Mosquito repellent. DEET-based for evenings, particularly at Salang and the village walks. Some resort chalets have open eaves.

Pitfalls and things to know

Avoid November to February strictly. North-east monsoon — most resorts close, ferries suspend, Marine Park sites unfishable. Aim for late June through early September; April-May and September-October are good shoulder windows with fewer crowds.
Sea-state cancellations are real. March and October shoulder months see ferry cancellations on bad-swell days; build a buffer day if your trip is in those windows.
Boat ride 1.5-2 hours can be rough. Stugeron for sensitive kids; sit mid-ship to minimise motion.
Limited indoor backup if rainy. Most kid attractions are outdoor; a wet day means resort pool, indoor cafe rotation and the Marine Park visitor centre. Pack a few card games and tablets.
